How to care for your new tattoo!

First things first:

After the tattoo is finished and all cleaned up, I will apply an adhesive bandage called Saniderm. If you have any allergies to adhesives however, we can opt out for the old fashioned non sticky bandage. The Saniderm can be left on for 2-5 days. The alternative bandage is only recommended to stay on for a few hours. Once you’re ready to take the bandage off, I recommend using some warm water to remove and immediately clean with unscented antibacterial soap and water. Use clean hands only, no loofa or wash cloths. Do not soak the tattoo and when you’re finished cleaning it, let it air dry and apply a light amount of Aquaphor. The Aquaphor can be used 2-3 times a day for the first week or two after removing the bandage. Make sure the tattoo fully absorbs the ointment and get rid of any excess. After a week or two of using the Aquaphor, your tattoo should be at that flaky, peely stage which means you can switch to a non-scented lotion. Use that 2-3 times a day (or as needed) for the rest of the month until it’s no longer peeling and itchy.

Stay out of the sun!

During the first month of healing, you’re going to want to stay out of any direct sunlight. No swimming, hot tubs or saunas for at least a month. That also means no tanning! After your tattoo has healed, make sure to always protect it with sunscreen to ensure a long and vibrant life.

Your tattoo may bleed for up to 24-48 hours so I recommend the following:
1. Please refrain from working out or doing anything that will cause heavy sweating while wearing the saniderm. Working out pumps your blood and could cause you to bleed through the bandage or possibly sweat the bandage off.
2. If the bandage happens to get too full of ink and plasma, you can take it off, clean it and replace it. If you do not have a replacement bandage, go ahead and start the aquafor even if you were only able to keep the bandage on for a few hours.
3. No drinking alcohol for up to a week or at the very minimum, 24 hours to keep the tattoo from bleending more and slowing the healing process.

And lastly..
No picking or scratching while the tattoo is healing!!!

Im always a phone call or text away for any other questions you may have.  :)
