How to care for your new tattoo!
First things first:
After the tattoo is finished and all cleaned up, I will apply an adhesive bandage called Dermshield. If you have any allergies to adhesives however, we can opt out for the old fashioned non sticky bandage. The Dermshield can be left on for 2 days. The alternative bandage is only recommended to stay on for a few hours.
Once you’re ready to take the bandage off, I recommend using some warm water to remove and immediately clean with unscented soap and water. Use clean hands only, no loofa or wash cloths.
Let the tattoo air dry before applying a LIGHT amount of aquaphor. The Aquaphor can be used 2-3 times a day for 2 days after removing the bandage. Make sure the tattoo fully absorbs the ointment and get rid of any excess.
After the 2 days using the Aquaphor, you can switch to a non-scented lotion. Use that 2-3 times a day (or as needed) for the rest of the month until it’s no longer peeling and itchy. Keep lotioning frequently after the tattoo is healed to keep it looking fresh and bright!
Stay out of the sun!
During the first month of healing, you’re going to want to stay out of any direct sunlight. No swimming, hot tubs or saunas for at least 2-3 weeks. After your tattoo has healed, make sure to always protect it with sunscreen to ensure a long and vibrant life.
Your tattoo may bleed for up to 24-48 hours so I recommend the following:
1. Please refrain from working out or doing anything that will cause heavy sweating while wearing the Dermshield. Sweat can cause bacteria in the bandage and working out pumps your blood and could cause you to bleed through the bandage or possibly sweat the bandage off.
2. If the bandage happens to get too full of ink and blood, you can take it off right away. Make sure to go ahead and start the aquafor even if you were only able to keep the bandage on for a few hours.
3. No drinking alcohol for up to a week or at the very minimum, 24 hours to keep the tattoo from bleending more and slowing the healing process.
4. Infections are rare but if any signs occur (overly red, very sore, puffy, puss, fever) consult with your doctor right away.
I don’t mind answering questions so just send a text or direct message on instagram or facebook if you have any concerns at all!
